These are XAMPP and MAMP. This post is going to be a review and head to head battle about them. I have posted about them before, but this is going to be an extension of that. Originally made for Mac, MAMP is a similar program with XAMPP, that allows to setup a web server on your home computer, now available for Windows users too. It installs Apache server with many essential modules included (SSL, Auth.), MySQL database, PHP with essential libraries included, Python and Perl. Simply type the following command (as root) to start a simple security check:
sudo /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/xampp security
Capture nx 2 for mac. Now you should see the following dialog on your screen:

XAMPP: MySQL is accessable via network.
XAMPP: Normaly that's not recommended. Do you want me to turn it off? [yes] yes
